Transport strike set on Monday July 13

Please take of this news report especially us commuters:
MANILA, Philippines -- Jeepney drivers will hold a transport strike in Metro Manila and other parts of the country on Monday to protest the recent spate of oil price hikes and high fines on traffic violations.
Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) secretary general George San Mateo said the strike will affect Metro Manila and select regions like Davao City, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos City, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Panay, and Guimaras.

“We hope to paralyze at least 80 percent of the transport sector here in Metro Manila,” he said in an press conference Friday in Quezon City.
The transport leader said the drivers will hold the strike to condemn the recent oil price hikes implemented by the Big 3 companies—Shell, Caltex and Petron.

“We again call on the government to conduct an independent audit of the Big 3’s books especially after the Manila court junked an appeal to stop the audit,” San Mateo said.
He also urged President Gloria Macapagal-Aroyo to junk two orders of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC) mandating high fines on erring jeepney drivers.
San Mateo particularly called for the junking of DoTC orders 2008-39 and 2008-38 supposedly mandating the high fines.

“These orders only intensify corruption in the streets because of the government’s desire to increase its revenue collection at the expense of the poor jeepney drivers and operators,” he added.
Meanwhile, private motorists were also asked to join in the transport strike by boycotting the Big 3’s petrol products on the day of the strike itself.
