Dismissed Cop, Now a Dead Cop

I have watched the live telecast of ABS-CBN news of the hostage taking by Rolando Mendoza in Quirino Grandstand today. For more than an hour I skip my trip to the rest room to make sure that I will not miss any update. My kids are also watching with me, I just don't know the emotional impact on them while watching the hostage taking. From time to time they were asking something on the news report by the field reporters. They missed Noah and Agua Bendita, the real life hostage drama ended at 9pm and by that time they should be at their beds.

Over exposure to media did not help in the situation. Now Rolando Mendoza is dead. Policemen should be trained more for situations like this, tourism in the Philippines will surely go down.

Live TV shows several hostages coming out from the bus’ window.

Agence France Presse reported that four captives emerged from a bus alive, while the gunman was believed to have been killed.

Fifteen tourists from Hong Kong were believed to have been on the bus at the end of the 12-hour ordeal, and there were fears for the lives of the others who did not get off the bus immediately afterwards.

The body of the man believed to be the gunman, an ex-policeman who hijacked the bus in a desperate bid to get his job back, was seen slumped out of the main door of the vehicle.

Police confirmed that the ex-policeman was killed during the assault.

Earlier, Radio Mindanao Network reported that a child was hit by a stray bullet as police started its assault on the hostage-taker.

Bb. Pilipinas Melody Gersbach Died in Car Mishap

A Binibining Pilipinas beauty contest titleholder and two of her companions were killed after their car crashed into a passenger bus in Camarines Sur on Saturday morning, a radio report said. Reigning Bb. Pilipinas Melody Gersbach, her driver Santos Ramos and her manager Alvin Orense died on the spot after the Innova car they were riding collided head-on with a Guevarra bus at Barangay Pawili in Bula town at past 11 a.m. Saturday, according to a report aired over Bombo Radyo. Camarines Sur provincial police director Col. Jonathan Ablang said in the report that Gersbach’s car came from Legazpi City in Albay and was heading to Naga City in Camarines Sur for a local beauty pageant when it figured in the accident.

The fatalities were brought to a funeral parlor in Barangay Anayan in Pili town after the accident, the report said. Gersbach competed in the Miss International pageant in China last November, where she secured a spot in the semi-finals. source: GMANews.TV

Awesome Beds at CSN Stores

When we moved to my mom’s place two years ago I told my kids that after cleaning the vacant rooms upstairs, they can have their own rooms and they agreed. But when it’s time for them to transfer they declined, since we don’t have any other companion in the house I agreed that they can stay with me. At least we can save on our monthly electricity bills. Ronald Singson Post Bail at HK$1M

Ilocos Sur Rep. Ronald Singson has been allowed to post bail of HK$1 million (approximately P5.7 million) after being arrested at the Hong Kong International Airport last month for drug possession. A Hong Kong judge granted Thursday Singson's bail petition after his arrest for allegedly bringing cocaine to the former Crown Colony last July 11.

A report by ABS-CBN correspondent Henry Omaga Diaz said the HK$1 million will be paid as a surety bond by two Hong Kong businessmen who will take custody of Singson. He identified the 2 businessmen as a certain Annie Shie and Derrick Wong.

He said Ms. Shie was an acquaintance of Singson's father, former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson, who was present at the hearing on Thursday.

The court also ordered Singson to submit all his travel papers to ensure that he would not leave the territory until a final sentence is handed down.

Singson's arraignment has been reset to September 7. Singson's father, Luis, and rumored girlfriend, Lovi Poe, attended the hearing in Hong Kong Thursday morning.

Singson is facing drug trafficking charges in Hong Kong for carrying 6.7 grams of cocaine in his bag last July 11.

Earlier reports said Singson was carrying as much as 26.1 grams of cocaine and 2 tablets of Valium in his bag. Singson's father, however, said the amount was reduced after authorities "deducted the weight of the bottle containing the drugs."

Under Hong Kong law, Singson could be sentenced to 3-and-a-half years in jail if found guilty of drug possession. source:abs-cbn news

Getting Ready for CAT 2011 Entrance Examination

It’s been a while since I haven’t been updated about some major and competitive eligibility examinations that are held yearly. Some of these examinations are the base requirement for some prominent management institutions to choose the best among the best in terms of management skills and potentials. The Common Admission Test (CAT) captured my focus because it was recorded in the Economist Intelligence 2003 Survey, being tagged as the most rigid and difficult MBA assessment in the world, the reason why more applicants are getting ready to take this test. CAT is also for students who want to engage in post-level management degree from well-known IIM's. There are also websites helping aspirants to get higher average in this high-status entrance exam making it easier for them to prepare and mostly have great confidence in taking CAT 2011 Entrance Exam with flying colors.

Getting ready for this means you have to hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in one of the universities and organizations accredited by the UGC or the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Before planning to buy a new domain, I was really thinking a hundred times if I can maintain three blogs. I already have one blogspot and one domain which I purchased from GoDaddy last year. A friend suggested where I can buy a cheaper domain and also offer a webhosting. Frankly speaking I only intent to buy a new domain to monetize my blog where I can earn extra money to buy a new laptop and a DSLR camera and a lot more! Michael Douglas has Tumor

Michael Douglas has a tumor in his throat and will undergo radiation and chemotherapy. The Academy Award-winning actor's treatment is scheduled to last eight weeks. The 65-year-old Douglas says he expects to make a full recovery. He told People magazine in a statement Monday he's "very optimistic." His publicist's assistant, Eli Barach, confirmed his condition to The Associated Press.

The actor is outside the United States, publicist Allen Burry said Monday, declining to give his location or where he would be treated.

Douglas and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, purchased a house on the island of Bermuda nearly a decade ago, and Zeta-Jones said they planned to raise their two children there.

Another ten year old kid wowed the audience in America's Got Talent, Jackie Evancho from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania gave a hair raising song on her audition. Do watch the video of this amazing girl.

Musical Play CATS

I always admire the voice of Leah Salonga, though she's not a "birit queen" her quality of voice was highly acclaimed around the world making her famous in Miss Saigon. I will always remember her in the song "I Am But a Small Voice". She's a very down to earth lady but I was puzzled why she was not invited to sing our National Anthem on Pacquiao's boxing matches. I heard good reviews of her in CATS, I want to watch the play but the tickets are very expensive. I just want to wish her luck and congratulations on their successful musical play.
FYI, Cats is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. It introduced the song standard "Memory".

It is currently the 2nd longest-running show in Broadway history and the 4th longest-running show in musical theatre history.

The musical first opened in the West End in 1981 and then on Broadway in 1982. Each time directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, it won numerous awards, including both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Tony Award for Best Musical. Rainy Sunday

We just stayed home this whole weekend because of the scary winds and rain brought about by typhoon Ester. Yesterday I said that we're going to have champorado for our snack today, but Nikko requested for a an oatmeal. Oatmeal has many health benefits.

I was delighted to know that there are two upcoming Holidays this August, 23 for Ninoy Aquino Day and 30 for National Heroes Day, yahoo! Two consecutive long weekends, great! I hope I can take a rest, only IF my helper will not go on a holiday leave too. I wanted to bring the kids at Science Discovery Center or watch a 3D movie at SM IMAX, but maybe I have to surprise them because the rain might spoil their expectations if they heard about my plans.

Chelsea Clinton officialy ties the knot

Chelsea Clinton has married her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, the Clinton family said, ending weeks of secretive build-up about the former first daughter's wedding.

"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends," ex-president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement on Saturday evening.
